The Hoosier Hills Food Bank is a private, non-profit, 501( c )( 3 ) organization that collects, salvages, and distributes donated food to local feeding programs which serve needy people. That food comes from retailers, wholesalers, and other food industry businesses that have chosen to donate their surplus, short-dated, mislabeled, off-spec, or container-damaged product instead of wasting it. Our goal is to salvage food that might otherwise be wasted and to channel that food to those who need it in our community. The Hoosier Hills Food Bank serves 85 partner charities that offer food assistance in our local six county area. These local agencies are food pantries, soup kitchens, youth and senior programs, and shelters. The Hoosier Hills Food Bank will offer you:
We are also a part of a nationwide network of more than 200 food bank affiliates called America’s Second Harvest the Nation’s Food Bank Network. Donors to the national network include major companies like General Mills, Quaker Oats, Nabisco, and Kraft. They donate to America’s Second Harvest and then ASH distributes these donations to affiliates like ourselves around the country. The Hoosier Hills Food Bank receives most of its donations from local companies like Kroger, Tree of Life, U.S. Foodservice, Sodexho, Chartwell’s and Indiana University. This donated food is the fundamental first step to our ability to help feed those in need. Donors are offered several assurances about their donations. We are inspected by both the local and state board of health. America’s Second Harvest performs a compliance audit to ensure we are safely handling and storing food up to industry standards. The agencies we serve are monitored annually to make sure they are distributing the food safely and to those in need. In addition, all food donations are protected under the Good Samaritan Act to protect donors from liability. In our 20 years of operation, the Hoosier Hills Food Bank has never been involved in any food safety or liability disputes. Please consider donating all of your future dated and damaged products to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. With your help we can work to alleviate local hunger. |
