2009 Live from Bloomington Food Drive

brought in 9,686 pounds

of non-perishable foods!

Thanks for taking the hunger out of poverty!

Sponsored by the IU Credit Union - a food drive throughout the Bloomington Community brings in thousands of pounds of food and needs many volunteers.

Club Night includes local musicians playing at local venues; admittance into the shows is canned food or a minimal monetary cover.

Night Clubs not your thing? Participate in the Food Drive instead! Look for a brown paper bag in your Herald Times early in April asking you to fill it with non-perishable foods. If you don’t get the Herald Times, or miss your bag, don’t worry—any old bag will do! Place your bag of non-perishables outside on your porch, steps, or driveway on the morning of the food drive. Volunteers will spend the day scanning neighborhoods for donations. We are happy to send volunteers anywhere in Bloomington for a food donation, so please let us know if we missed your bag. We try our hardest to get to each neighborhood, but sometimes we do miss a few. Just call 334-8374 and we will come out for your donation!

VOLUNTEER!!

Join us on the morning of the food drive to help us pick up food! Often, when students leave Bloomington and the town slows down, the food bank’s supply of food drive items starts to dwindle—last summer we even ran out!  This is a problem, because typically, the food drive we receive from the community is our highest quality input of food.

Here is how you can help:

  • We need individuals or groups of 2 to 5 with a vehicle to join us at the food bank by 10am to get assigned neighborhood/zone, pick up food drive bags on curbs around Bloomington, and bring it back to the food bank!

  • You can help out for one hour or four, it’s up to you!

  • Feel free to come on your own, with your spouse, children or partner, or a group of friends or coworkers and help out for a few hours.

To sign up, or if you have questions, contact Kai at volunteer@hhfoodbank.org or 812.334.8474.
